This series is my inquiry about how identity is shaped. To me, identity is first forged by social expectations which are embedded in a person’s name. My grandfather gave me the name Yuefeng, which means mountains in Chinese. It is based on the Tang dynasty poet Dumu’s work which praises the sublime effect of the natural world. They wish I could live a peaceful life. These stories about my name affect my decision and sense of free will. Names are a semiotic imprint that has profound power on my precision and formation of “the self .”I tend to break away from the social expectations to run autonomous experimentation with the unknown. I am doing whatever I can to break from the predefined trajectory, experiment, and define my own identity.
