Strangler Fig
I love to use found materials. I dug out a steel bar and some wooden pieces from a wasteland near a construction site close to my house. I am so bored and curious to see how I can transform and maybe upcycle these materials. So I started a series of experiments that involved warping, burning, and cutting the found materials. The work is fused into a transitional area between the construction site and wasteland. In this work, the wire plant-like structure symbolizes a plant named ficus cyrtophyllum. The ficus cyrtophylla’s vine has to climb up along a host plant to survive. As it gets stronger, it will take over its host plant’s nutrition . At the same time, the vine will cover the host like a net and finally strangle the host, leaving it withered gradually. The installation comments on the coexistence between anthropogenic-driven development within a natural state.
